This is a fun activity that I use every year! A lot of my students have a difficult time realizing that emotions can be broken down into very specific feelings and that makes it difficult for them to understand mood and tone. I like to use this activity as a refresher to activate prior-knowledge or as an introduction to mood and tone.
Part 1- Read and discuss the article defining "word choice"
Part 2- Practice breaking basic and unimaginative words down
Part 3- Use the interesting words from brainstorm (Part 2) to identify mood.
