Students will enjoy trying to fill in their game board as they practice reading their short vowel word chunks. Each student takes a turn by reading the card that lists two short vowels. If both words are read correctly the student fills in both blocks. If one word is read correctly then just one box is filled in. If a stop sign is drawn the student loses their turn. Each card is put back in the pile after a turn. Students that pick up a card they already have read correctly, will put the card back and it is the next player’s turn. However if they pick up the same card and had only read one of the words correctly before this is their change to get the other word correct and fill it in. The game is done when someone has filled up their whole card or when the teachers say stop. If the teacher says stop the student that had the most boxes covered in wins.
