Here are three sets of word cards activities (114 cards total!) for your little learners to practice the strategy of "chunking letters and sounds together" when decoding. I made them to work with my kindergarten students who are just learning to read.
As readers use word parts to decode words by using what they know about one word, they will be better able to decode other words. Recognizing word parts helps students become more skilled at decoding so that they will eventually be able to decode longer words.
The cards are designed to help produce skilled readers who recognize patterns in words rather than sound words out letter by letter. The set includes activities for 27 common word parts.
They can be used in your guided reading groups and for independent and partner practice. They also work well as a supplement to your guided reading lesson and/or as an independent literacy center option.
These are the word parts included: ab, ad, ag, an, am, at, ap, eg, en, et, ed, ig, in, it, ip, od, ox, ob, og, ot, op, ub, ug, un, ud, up ut.
Here is what you will receive:
• 75 Word chunking cards
• 18 Fill-in chunking wheels
• 21 Word chunking fluency cards
