Affect- a verb that means to change
Ex: Turning in the outside reading project late will negatively affect your grade in a big way.
Effect- a noun that means the result or consequence of something
Ex: Yelling across the cafeteria had the effect the principal hoped it would—the seventh graders were clearly affected as they fell silent in terror.
Two words! You wouldn’t write “alittle,” so you cannot write “alot.”
Ex: It really annoys Mr. Puglisi a lot when his students write “alot” on their essays.
