Word Detective- Locating phonics and grammar skills within text
This is a super easy way to have your students practice identifying words that follow specific phonics or grammar patterns. Each page has a target phonics or grammar skill that students are to search for in their book/text. They write the words that have that particular pattern (example: find all short a words) and the page number they found the words on. Each page is identical except the skill changes. This pack is great for independent practice after teaching a skill, but could also be used for early finishers or even as a center. There are 2 versions of this pack. One version is for using with books, one version is for using with text with numbered lines. The book version says Title of Book and Page, while the text version says “Title of text” and “Line”. They are identical in all other ways. These are ready to print – all you need to provide is books or text.
Please note this is a zip file containing the 2 files (1 book and 1 text version). They are each 118 pages for a total of 236 pages, but each file is nearly identical as noted above.
There are 113 pages of targeted skills, and 5 pages of directions/title pages
Short vowel word families
Long vowels (ai, ay, ee, ea, ie, y, igh, oa, ow, ew, ue, magic e)
Verbs, adjectives, nouns, pronouns
Prefixes and suffixes
Many skills are represented on multiple pages with the skill being broken down. For example there is a find the blends page, find the blends with l, find the blends with r and individual pages for fl, pl, gl, cl, bl, tr, cr, br, dr, pr, gr, and fr.
