This is a 2 page document with 8 bookmarks (printed front & back) for children to use as a visual reminder. They use it to remind them how to be word detectives and figure out words that are hard for them.
1. We box suffixes and prefixes, bracket final stable syllables
2. We look for compound words (or 2 smaller base words)
3. We underline consonant digraphs, code vowel digraphs, v-e, or Vr
4. We draw a line from the first vowel to the last vowel to be sounded
5.We label our vowels and consonants
6. We divide our syllables
7. We accent
8. We code each syllable
9.We read our word
The background is white so you can print it on any color you want. I printed it on yellow and it looks great. The thumbnails show the white background and the yellow so you can see what it looks like printed on a color. The font and images are in color.
The PREVIEW shows both sides of the actual book mark after it was cut and laminated for my students.
This has been an asset in my classroom. The children have said that this is one of the best strategies I've taught them. They use their word detective all the time!
