This download provides printables for your students to practice word families. (You may also know these as phonograms, rimes, or spelling patterns).
The five patterns covered are: -at, -an, -ad, -ap, -ag
These worksheets offer exposure to the word family chunks you want your students to recognize automatically. It's important for developing readers to recognize these familiar chunks in new words so they'll become more proficient readers. When young readers begin to notice common word families in the words in their texts, it eliminates the need to "sound out" every letter. Knowing word families is also a powerful spelling tool for students.
Use these printables during whole-group lessons, small group instruction, independent practice, literacy centers, morning work, or as a review for homework. You could also use them as a quick formative assessment following instruction.
The print quality looks equally great in black and white or color.
I am adding additional printables almost weekly; be sure to follow me to receive notification of the latest upload.
