These 36 word family activities help kids practice their detective skills ( not to mention their decoding and blending skills, as well!) as they sleuth out the beginning sounds and word families that make real words. Each sheet follows the same format. There are 3 beginning letters in the box at the bottom of the page that do not make real words. After kids cut out the box in the corner (eg. the “at” chunk box) they can hold it beside each beginning letter at the bottom to read and decide if it is a real word. Kids love making up sentences (the sillier the better!) using the words they make, and enjoy sharing them aloud.
The word families in this set are: ad, an, at, ap, ag, ack, and, ank, ash, aw, ay, ake, ail, ain, ate, ame, et, ell, est, ew, it, in, ip, ill, ick, ink, ing, ide, ice, op, ot, ob, ore, oke, ug, unk
This set is perfect for independent Word Work during Daily 5 or Literacy Centre time!
