This is a set of materials for students to use to practice spelling and reading word families. It would be appropriate for your Word Work or Literacy Center time. The set contains eight different spinners for each vowel sound, for a total of forty different spinners!
Print the pages on cardstock and laminate. Cut each page into four spinners. When students are ready to use, they use a clothespin to clip a clear spinner onto the front of one of the Word Family Spinners.
The student should write the rime, then spin. Students write a word from the family by writing the letter the spinner landed on, plus the rime. The spinner makes this activity extra-engaging!
Included are two recording pages for students. On the first one, students can simply write the words they make. The second one involves sketching words and writing sentences with the words in them.
This set coordinates with my Vowel Posters, available on TeachersPayTeachers.
Clear spinners are available at www.eaieducation.com or www.enasco.com. Interested in making your own free spinner with a clear CD case? You can find directions here: http://www.raftbayarea.org/ideas/Spinner%20on%20a%20Media%20Tray.pdf
