“Word” Family Trees-Set 1: A Comprehensive Word Work Set that includes most long vowel word families that contain “silent” e. Includes: ake, ope, ine, ace, ore, ale, ate, ame, ade, ide, ice, ike This 39 page word family set is aligned with the Common Core State Standards and designed to increase higher-order thinking. . Each activity (6 pages) within this set covers two word families at a time in order to increase higher order thinking through comparing and contrasting. Word cards (included) lend themselves to the execution of cooperative learning. Each set follows the same format with changes only to the words and sentences (great for literacy/word work centers)!

Directions for each (6 page) activity set are as follows:
Page 1 – Students will read each sentence and circle all words that contain the specific word families for that set (shown on chart at the bottom of the first page). Students will then write the words they have circled under the correct heading in the chart at the bottom of the page.
Page 2 – Have students cut out word cards. At this point students will complete some type of hands-on activity (use your imagination).
Pages 3-6 – Finally, students will color the leaves then write words from the 2 word families on the blank leaves and glue them to the bare “word” family tree they belong to (word family shown on trunk of each tree).
Display – Use completed trees to create a bulletin board that will enable students to use as a reference in addition to your classroom word wall.
