**Roll a Word**
Students roll the two dice, place the red letter first followed by the black letter. Students say the word they have made. If it is a real word, students write it in the Sensible space. If it is not a real word, students write it in the Silly space. Students continue until a space is filled or 10 sensible words have been made. Two recording sheets have been included. One with guidelines, one without. (Some cutting, folding and gluing dice required in preparation for this game).
Onset strips coupled with rime square (attached with string). For example, onset strip l,d, s, h, t, r, sl coupled with 'ip' rime. Students place the rime square next to the first onset. In this case, student places the ‘ip’ next to ‘l’ at the top of the strip. The student would say ‘lip’ and then move the ‘ip’ rime to the next onset ‘d’ and then say ‘dip’. The student continues to move the rime down the onset until the strip is complete. There are 4 strips included. (Some cutting and attaching with string required in preparation for this game).
Students will need 1 die, 6 markers and a caterpillar board each. Students roll the die. Students cover the word on the caterpillar that rhymes with the word next to the number die. Each word can only be covered once. If the student rolls the word again, they do not cover any word. It is the next player’s turn. The first person to cover all the words is the winner!
Students will need 1 die and approximately 30 counters each. The counters should be colored and unique to each player. Students roll the die and match the number to the word family. Cover a word on the board from that word family. If another player has already covered the word, BUMP it off. If your counter is already there, lock the space by stacking it up! The winner is the player with the most words covered when all spaces are covered or the allotted time is complete.
Strips with rhyming words that students need to match. Student lays the strips out with the start strip at the top. Student looks at word on the right-hand side of the start strip. For example, if the word was ‘tin’, the student then finds the strip that has the rhyming word to ‘tin’, in this case, ‘win’ on the left-hand side of the strip. The student places this strip underneath the first strip, then looks at the word on the right-hand side of the strip, e.g. ‘lid’ and searches for its rhyme on a strip. The student continues with this process until the final strip has been found. It will have the word ‘finish’ on the right-hand side. There are four sets included. (Some cutting required in preparation for this game).
