Subbing Sounds: Substitute Sounds to Make New Words
Subbing Sounds is the perfect activity for developing proficiency with the Common Core CCSS.ELA-Literacy. RF.K.2.e - Add or substitute individual sounds (phonemes) in simple, one-syllable words to make new words.
Changing only one sound at a time, students can readily see how changing just one letter/sound makes a new word. Students begin with a word and change the beginning sound to make a new word and then change the ending sound for another new word. Continuing this process, students will build 5 words using 4 or 5 consonants and 1 vowel. The selected cvc words are simple and provide the perfect words for beginning to blend sounds to read words.
Subbing Sounds includes 10 Activity Cards- 2 for each vowel. Cards may be used with magnetic tiles or classroom word tiles or use the provided “make your tiles.” Cards may be laminated to use over and over again.
