Word Learning Strategies is an effective program for teaching students practical, research-based strategies for inferring the meanings of unknown words they encounter while reading. The 15-week curriculum, which aligns with Common Core Standards, is built around an engaging superhero theme. During the lessons, the teacher uses a blend of direct explanation and constructivism to instruct students on four word learning strategies: Word Parts, Context, Dictionary, and Combined. All the materials needed to teach the curriculum are provided.
