This center activity is great for lessons on affixes, root words, and compound words. It is differentiated for working with using prefixes to make words, using suffixes to make words, making compound words, and making words with a prefix, root, and suffix. Students pretend that they are doctors operating on putting bones back together. Each fraction of the bone is a word part. After students put the words together, they record the word on their sheet and write the function (i.e meaning) of the word they created. There are already some pre made words in this product, but there also are blank bone parts. With the blank bone parts, you could laminate/ print them and change up the words with those that your class is studying, or have students make their own appropriate words with the fractured bone. You could also write on half of the bone and have them fill in the other half as they see fit.
