This is a useful activity to encourage students to not only examine the language in a text but also spark discussion about the text. It is a brief, small graphic organizer that can be used as a Do Now or homework assignment. With it, students write down a significant word, phrase, and sentence from a particular assigned text (with page/line/paragraph numbers). Then, depending on the teacher's preferences, students could share with a partner or in a small group before having a larger discussion or writing something about the text. It is a great way to get the students talking about a text!
