Fact fluency is a prerequisite step to computational fluency; however, computational fluency is your objective. Once students have the fact in place within long-term memory with some fast fact recall, then you may want to add the Word Problem cards to increase problem solving skills.

Initially, you will want to add Word Problem cards of known facts; therefore, some teachers use the Word Problem cards from the previous level.
