Word problems seem to scare children all the time. In my classroom, I do not allow fear to overpower them. I have developed a simple strategy that comes with an easy to remember acronym for children to conquer word problems. In this three-pager, you will get directions on how to use this strategy, a poster to hang in your room as a reminder on how to complete their word problem charts, and a blank sheet for students to start practicing. Eventually students won't need the worksheet and they'll be able to draw the chart themselves. It's only the fifth week of school and I've already got my 3rd graders completing multiplication and division word problems with, well, no problem! Give it a try! I promise you'll love it.
