Word Problems - A December Math Craftivity
Get your students working with winter-themed math word problems with this fun December craftivity. You can use these Problem Presents as a whole group lesson (modelling how to solve one fully for the whole class), as a math center activity, math workshop, or early-finisher activity.
Students will answer each of the six word problems – for each word problem they will analyze the question, solve the problem (showing their work), and communicate their thinking in the boxes provided. They will then color and decorate their presents before cutting out and assembling the final product – a 3D present.
This resource contains options for two different sizes of presents – one on full sheets (great for display in a larger area and for students who need a larger writing area), and one on half sheets (great for smaller display areas and smaller writing). Print only the size you need.
I have also included a blank template of the present for adding your own problem and requirements. You can add the problem yourself, or have students come up with their own problem. Blank templates can also be used as a cover page in case you want to assemble your problem presents into a book format instead of a 3D craftivity.
A rubric and answer key are also provided.
You have three different options for printing (you want your presents to be sturdy enough to stand on their own):
-Print on colored construction paper so your students only have a little bit of decorating to do (a good option if time is a factor)
-Print on cardstock (students will color the present pages)
-Print on regular paper, then glue onto construction paper and cut out around the present shape (students will color the present pages)
For easier completion, be sure students complete each page BEFORE they assemble the present.
This resource is included in my December Craftivities - Math Themed Craftivities which contains 3 different math craftivities perfect for the month of December.
