Frustrated that your kiddos breeze through word problems?
I began using the CUBES method and decided to make a template for solving word problems. But I noticed that they were coming up with ways to solve the problem prior to examining what information they already had.
This template really makes kids slow down to solve.
Students will begin by writing the word problem (or the teacher can print it on the paper) and circle the letters. They will then figure out what the question is asking for them to find, determine what information they already have, come up with an answer starter, create a process, then solve. Yes, it takes a long time to do this whole process, but it makes kids slow down and think.
