This is a set of 15 word problems set up in a template that promotes students' meta-cognition when solving. The word problems contain a mix of adding, subtracting, and multiplying fractions. Often, students practice a certain skill or operation and anticipate the independent practice page to be over that same skill. This, of course, is necessary when gauging student understanding and assessing learning. However, it may not be good ALL the time, as it takes out the part of the students actually reading and thinking about what the problem is asking them to do. Inserting some review word problems helps them to really read and analyze what the problem is asking. This product allows students to do this in a fun way, as they become "wizards." The template requires them to pick out key words and write them in a box underneath the word problem, and then also write what operation they will then use. After students "think about thinking," they then go on to solve the word problem in the box below. Students will have fun becoming word problem wizards while building their math meta-cognition and problem-solving skills with this spiral review. PDF file.
