Intermediate grade teachers (grades 4-6) can start each math class off with an engaging word problem that has a historical connection to the date!
This document includes a unique math word problem for each day of February, including February 29th. Some are short and simple, while others are longer and/or require multiple steps to solve. A variety of skills will be practiced by your students over the course of the month, including:

* fractions and simplest form
* factors * unit rate
* area * perimeter
* rounding * graphs
* standard and expanded form

The topics vary from historical figures and events to science to pop culture. A few of the subjects include:

Students enjoy the variety of interesting facts and figures. My students would ask for the day's problem if I ever forgot to put it up!

1) in a sequential document
2) two per page for distribution as half sheets
3) individually for projection, complete with illustrations
Also included is a printable student answer sheet. An answer key includes the solution to each problem with "the work" shown. It also lists the skill(s) used in each solution as well as the general topic of the problem. Again, please see the preview.
