Use this editable PowerPoint to help 2nd and 3rd grade students build their story problem expertise with some fun word problem practice! With editable word problems and answers, you can customize this product to use again and again. The story problems included are appropriate for second and third grade students, but can be customized for any elementary grade level.
This digital math resource is ready to use in seconds as a whole class activity to introduce using clue words as a problem solving strategy for word problems. Students are asked to write the number sentence (equation) and clue words on white boards as you watch the show (slides 3-72) together.

There are 20 problems included in this set (8 level 1, 7 level 2, and 5 level 3 questions). These are all addition and subtraction story problems. Problems are organized by level of difficulty and increase in difficulty throughout each section. If you would like to make the problems easier/harder, the problem and answer slides are editable. The clue word slides are also editable since the kids will always think of new clue words. The slides with graphics are not editable due to copyright restrictions.
Possible Modifications:
- Print out the PowerPoint slides and use as an around the room (a.k.a. scoot) activity
- Have students play the show on individual computers using the answer slides to check their work
- Use one or two problems as a daily math warm up
- Use a few problems a week at an independent math center
- Print out the show in handout form and use the problems and answers as task cards
- Have students write similar problems (with answers) to add to the show or make their own show
- Print out slides 11, 12 and 17 as resources for student math journals
