These Word Problems: Key Words posters are perfect for those word problems that contain so much language you don’t know where to begin or for students who struggle with identifying key words. Here are some ways in which you can use these:
1. Print them off and have students put them in their interactive math notebooks, homework folders, etc. so they always have a copy handy (I have found that students come across more key words throughout the year and add them onto their posters)
2. Print them off and display them on your math bulletin board for students to reference throughout the day.
3. Cut up the words and have students sort them based on the operation in which they fit (I do this at the beginning of each of my small groups giving them 2 to 3 minutes to see how many they can sort- it has become a sort of game where they try to beat their time each session and allows me to do a quick check of their understanding of the words)
