Looking for some magical way to help kids think through word problems? You've come to the right spot!
This file is set with 20 days worth of word problems that are a mixture of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. I personally use them as mornign work but these would be great for small group work, intervention work, etc. Prepare these by printing them 2 sided and holepunching. Place in a binder/ braded folder for each kiddo. This makes things easy for my students and keeps everything nice a orderly.

How it works:
1) Model with students and do one together.
2) Section 1:Student go through the thinking process of word problems by first restating what the question is asking, deciding what information they need to use from the story and then estimate the numbers they plan to use to come up with an estimated answer. This helps them understand whether their answer is getting bigger/smaller and roughly what their answer should be.
3) Next students will solve the problem twice. This helps students get use to double checking their work. I often teach my students multiple ways to add or subtract and encourage them to choose two when solving the problem. Later down the road, I let them choose one method and do it twice, checking their first answer the second time they do it.
4) Finally, students will finish the thinking process by checking to make sure they answered their question, double checked their work and made sure their answers made sense.

By the end of the year, these steps should be engrained in your kids brains and word problems should be easier to do.

Be on the look out for the next round of daily word problems
