These math problems were created especially for 2nd and 3rd grade to encourage drawing and sketching as an aide to problem solving. They are a mix of addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. They would be great for RTI, in a math station, for use in task card games, or projected one at a time for morning work and math journaling. A poster is also included (as shown in the thumbnails).
Drawing for word problems helps students collect important data, decipher word meanings, and choose correct problem solving strategies more easily. It is helpful to go over the answers in class, so you can model for the students, or have them show different ways to sketch and solve the problem.
These are basic operations word problems, and about 25% of the task cards are multiple step problems. The largest answer is 700. These task cards are a low key way to introduce multiplication and division problems without using those terms. Students generally find the problems easy to solve with a sketch, which makes multiplying and dividing less intimidating.
