What is possibly the most difficult topic for algebra students? Word problems! If you are like me, you can always use extra word problems for students to practice. This set of task cards is versatile. Use all of the cards or specific ones to focus on a certain type of word problem.
I like to introduce these fairly early in the year (before factoring). Quadratic terms appear in the area problems. However, they will cancel out, so factoring is not required. I teach students to double distribute rather than teaching "FOIL" at this point in the year.
