Use a bar model to solve basic addition and subtraction word problems. Included in this resource are teaching strategies and sample problems that show student thinking and use of the bar model, as well as the bar model to duplicate for students. The bar model is large so it can be copied, laminated, and cut out for students to use on their desks with dry erase markers for solving problems. Also, laminated copies of the bar model can be placed in math centers for problem solving activities. Paper copies can be glued in math journals or interactive notebooks. This is a valuable resource for your students to learn to use! The understanding and use of bar models will prepare them for problem solving in grades beyond 2nd and 3rd!
