The text and clip art on this bookmark are purposefully simple, with the focus on teaching first grade students the "tools" they can use to figure out unknown words during reading. These tools match plastic tools that I purchased years ago, which I created into a "word-solving toolkit." (The last tool is a picture of a level.) You do not need the plastic tools, because I have created hand motions for the tools to help students remember what to do when they come to an unknown word. (Video in progress). This resource prints 4 colored bookmarks per page, which I recommend printing on brightly colored cardstock (as in the thumbnail). I hope this freebie gets you interested in my other materials... coming soon... including a description/handout of how to teach the word-solving tools, Powerpoint presentation, and bookmarks for upper grade levels.
