Are you looking for a differentiated phonics activity for students to work independently on the word parts they need? We’ve designed these word sorts to be used during word work time in order to differentiate the learning for all students. Each of the 100 word sorts includes two categories at the top with 8 words for sorting. The word sort pages are labeled for easy organization and management. In our classrooms, we make several copies of each page on cardstock and place the copies in a file crate. That way they are always ready for students to independently find the word part they are working on! After they select their word sort, students can sort these words in many different ways depending on the materials and needs in your classroom. Students can write categories in a notebook and sort the words by writing them down. They could cut out the words and glue them on construction paper as they sort. Or, students can use an iPad app (such as a book creation app) to type the words and drag them to the correct categories. **Our students use The Literacy Ladies “Word Study Grid – A Phonics Intervention” to know which word part they need to work on based on data from a spelling inventory. In our classrooms, using this word study grid, our word work time is completely differentiated because students are working on only the word parts they have not yet mastered! As they finish each sort, they add a tally mark to their grid. This is our best word work activity ever!! We hope you love it as much as we do!
