Computer Word Sorts: Suffix -ed (Fill-In)
This activity integrates technology with phonics/word analysis. Your students will be able to apply the keyboarding skills they have learned, while analyzing the different sounds of the suffix -ed. This a PDF file that students can complete on the computer (like a form) by typing in the correct word from the word bank and printing out their answers.
Word sorts are a great tool for helping your students to make connections between words and affixes. This closed sort allows your students to demonstrate their understanding of how the suffix -ed changes the tense of a verb to past tense and apply that knowledge when sorting words with the suffix -ed based on their ending sounds.
This activity is appropriate for above level 2nd grade to fourth grade. It can be used after introducing the suffix -ed or as reinforcement. The package includes a teacher companion packet with posters/handouts that explain the different sounds of the suffix -ed, a picture of the file, an answer key, and additional words for further exploration. The teacher companion includes essential questions, skills, and Core Content Curriculum Standards
for this topic.
