Each set includes: (i) A word list cover page that may be used for oral assessments (ii) school copy of student’s word sort to color code, initial, read, and sort. Students work with this sort at school. (iii) home copy of word sort. Students keep and work with this copy at home, thus preventing the excuse that “I left it at home” or “I can’t find it.” (iv) a series of writing sorts: ABC Order, Read-Sort-Write, Search & Sort, Unscramble & Sort, Color Code Cloud, Blind Sort, written assessment page, teacher‘s font-coded word cards for introducing new word sorts : cvce cards for blending practice, vowel pattern cards for vowel spelling activities.
These writing sorts are convenient for use as independent practice or class/seat work. For additional spelling paper and pencil activities please see my “Draw and Label” and “Rainbow Writing” forms.
There you have it… virtually all you would need for specified, organized orthography instructions!
This activity is aligned with the State of Virginia Standards of Learning for Grade 1 English, Strands 1.2, 1.4, 1.5, and 1.6.
