FIRST SLIDE OF POWERPOINT:
In order to improve vocabulary and prepare for the ACT and SAT tests, you will participate in Word Study on some five-day weeks of class.
Day One: Create your Word Study list in three columns. First, choose ten words from you list of new words to learn. Copy these words (be careful to spell them correctly) into the first column of your paper. Second, copy down the definition into the second column. Third, practice spelling the word five times each in the third column.
Day Two: On the back of the paper, practice spelling and defining each word one time. Challenge yourself to spell and define from memory, but feel free to use your list as needed.
Day Three: On a separate sheet of paper, create strong contextual sentences, using all ten words.
Day Four: Pair up with a partner and orally quiz each other.
Day Five: You will quiz each other and submit your tests.
If you do not reach mastery on your quiz (80%), you must first correct your mistakes and then re-take it with the morning tutor. If you do not reach mastery on the second quiz, you must write out the word and definition of the word(s) you missed fifty times each.
If you are absent, it is your responsibility to make up the procedure for the day.
AFTER THIS FIRST SLIDE, THERE ARE 24 WEEKS OF VOCABULARY WORDS FROM ACT AND SAT WORD LISTS.
