The 10 printable practice worksheets in this packet feature 8 puzzles each, thus bringing the grand total to 80 puzzles. (Or, looking at it another way, 1 worksheet per day for the next two weeks.)
Essentially, each puzzle is a math reasoning or logic problem which bridges curricula into the domains of spelling, vocabulary, main ideas and details, and oftentimes science and/or social studies. I tend to teach in a holistic fashion, forming and weaving hundreds of connections throughout the academic year like a gigantic web, and these worksheets often tend to prove beneficial when one least expects them. For example, when I am teaching "Main Ideas and Details," I might direct the children's memories two months back to a time when they completed a "Word Towers" worksheet containing such terms as "asteroid," "Jupiter," and "flying saucer." "And what did those words have in common?" I might ask. "What was that particular worksheet about? Outer space, you say? Well, very good, that was the main idea and the individual words were the details - just like the words on the board before you are details belonging to a larger, main idea."
Each reproducible worksheet is double-sided and features 8 problems which fall under a central theme or main idea, such as "States," "Words Used in Math," and "Rainforest."
The actual worksheets are as follows:
"Birds" (2 pages)
'Body Parts" (2 pages)
"Ocean" (2 pages)
"Fantasy" (2 pages)
"Rainforest" (2 pages)
"States" (2 pages)
"Colors" (2 pages)
"Math" (2 pages)
"Countries" (2 pages)
"Outer Space" (2 pages)
"Answer Key" (1 page)
"Introduction to Word Towers" (1 page)
TOTAL 22 PAGES
I tend to use these practice worksheets in my classroom for morning work, however they can be used whenever and wherever you see fit - in centers, as homework and/or classwork, or as end of the year activities -the possibilities are virtually limitless. Better yet, however, the children look forward to and enjoy completing them!
Also, all of the worksheets are rendered in black and white, thus producing crisp, clear copies every time.
I will be posting a similar follow-up packet, "More Word Towers," in the near future, so please keep an eye out!
As always, I appreciate you taking the time to preview this product - or any of my products - and hope it will prove to be of benefit to you and your children for many years to come.
