For one of my literacy stations, I write down our spelling words on notecards and then cut them apart. I place the jumbled words in separate ziplock bags and have students rearrange the letters to create words. For those who need extra support, I tend to cut the words apart in a jigsaw pattern so they have an additional hint.)
I've attached the recording sheet that I use with this activity, as well as a sample set of traceable short a cards for primary grades. This can be adapted to upper level grades depending on the words chosen, and students can also try creating their own words from this.
