I printed out and hand colored this set of alphabet letters for my classroom Word Wall. I intentionally colored all the consonants in cool colors and the vowels in warm colors. You’ll notice the letter ‘y’ is represented as a consonant and a vowel, as it can be both.
The letter design is simple so as to be read easily. I especially like the lower case letter ‘a’ since it is the type students are most likely to write on their own.
For the Word Wall in my classroom, I placed each consonant on blue decorative paper, and each vowel on an orange decorative paper, leaving a border. I actually used different cool and warm colored papers for the upper case and lower case letters. The hope is to present an alphabet that can be used in many different ways for reading and writing purposes.
Finally, I laminated all the pieces, trimmed them and placed them on the bulletin board so I could start building my Word Wall. May this set provide you with an artistic model for your high frequency words!
