This activity allows the student to practice writing words from the word wall in a fun engaging way. For each word the student must find other words that start with the letters of the target word. Ex: the target word is “about” so the student must find a word that begins with “a”, another that begins with “b”, another that begins with “o”, etc.
The large print, defined space for each word, and the absence of distracting graphics are all purposeful adaptations for learners with special needs. An additional adaptation that might help with this game is to provide the students with an alphabetized list of their “wall words” as a bank to copy from (can be found for free in my store).
This can be a wonderful literacy center and it can be easily adapted for students who cannot write by allowing the use of abc stamps.
