Looking for a new word wall with matching headers, title, and words? Plus a template to add more words? Well, stop right here!
A word wall is as equally important as a well-stocked classroom library. The word wall should be a focal point in your room and be interactive. Words should be seen from across the room and should be either displayed with magnets attached to the backs or Velcro™. This where kids can take a word from the word wall and bring it back to his/her seat to use it during writing.
Words should be introduced and taught at the rate of five words a week. The only words at the beginning of the year that should be on your wall are kids’ names and/or the previous year’s words. As you teach the words through a poem of the week or another authentic experience or text, you add them to your wall.
After you have introduced them at the beginning of each week, you should provide practice each day. This can be with white boards, magnetic letters, or paper and pencil. Included are ways to teach sight words.
There are two sets of high frequency and/or sight words. The black set can be printed on colored card stock and I would suggest a red to match the scheme of this product. The other set is outlined in red and black and match the headers for your wall and the title, “Our Word Wall”. The vowels are in yellow to remind kids that every word in English must have a vowel.
I have also included two sets of templates of the frames I used if you want to add additional words to match. I used KBTeach font, K26 AlphaSans, font size 115 to make the words pop. The font is big and bold.
The words for this word wall are words that would easily be found in text levels J-M but it is not an exhaustive list so that is why I have included the templates to add more!
Here are the words that are included:
This will be a great addition to any second grade classroom!
