Word Wall kit! Headers! Words! Letters for your wall!
A word wall is as equally important as a well-stocked classroom library. The word wall should be a focal point in your room and be interactive. Words should be seen from across the room and should be either displayed with magnets attached to the backs or Velcro™. This way kids can take a word from the word wall and bring it back to his/her seat to use it during writing.
Words should be introduced and taught at the rate of five words a week. The only words at the beginning of the year that should be on your wall are kids’ names. As you teach the words through a poem of the week or another authentic experience or text, you add them to your wall.
After you have introduced them at the beginning of each week, you should provide practice each day. This can be with whiteboards, magnetic letters, or paper and pencil. Included are ways to teach sight words.
There are two sets of high frequency and/or sight words. The black set should be printed on colored cardstock and I would suggest a blue to match the scheme of this product. The other set is outlined in light blue and black and match the headers for your wall and the title, “Our Word Wall”.
I have also included two sets of templates of the frames I used if you want to add additional words to match. I used KB2Teach font, K26 AlphaSans, to make the words pop. The font is big and bold.
The words for this word wall are words that would easily be found in text levels A-D but it is not an exhaustive list so that is why I have included the templates.
Check out the preview!
I would store your laminated words in a large file box with alphabetical dividers so you are ready to teach at a moment's notice!
Thanks for stopping by!
