Word Wall Work worked like a charm this past year and I can’t wait to use it again! Parents were very appreciative of the clear, concise directions. It is simple to use, and is very effective.
Included in this download, are 34 word wall lists and 34 tests that coincide with the study lists. These lists are made up of high-frequency and primary grade words that children need to learn and practice to develop and maintain their reading skills. Every week the teacher sends a word wall list home with the child to keep at home and study during the week. After a week’s time, the child simply reads that same list of words (in random order on the test) to the teacher. (I have found it helpful to highlight the words that the students misread on the test so that parents are aware that the child needs more practice with those particular words.) After grading the tests, they may be sent home for parents to review with the child, sign, and return to the teacher.
I administer the tests during morning work and have had much success with that routine. You may find it best to administer the test during small groups or while the children are working at their literacy centers. The possibilities are endless!
