Let your students practice their spelling words with the classic game of battleship. Students place their spelling words anywhere they choose on their game board, hiding their "ships" from their partner. Then, students take turns calling off spaces to sink each of the ships, for example, D-12. When all letters are hit in the word, the “ship” is sunk. Whoever has sunk all of the other person’s ships first, wins.
My students love playing this version of battleship. I glue the game boards on manilla folders and laminate for repeated use. Students then use dry erase markers to mark their words and erase when they are done.
