These webs are designed to target the common vocabulary standards of using context clues and a variety of resources to correctly define a word. Students are given a sentence with an underlined word. First they use context clues to write their own definition. Then they find the correct dictionary definition and use a thesaurus to find synonyms and antonyms. Finally, students write their own sentence using the word.
This series of four worksheets can be used in a variety of ways. Divide the class into four groups, and give each group a web to complete. Use some of the worksheets for formative assessments and others as a summative assessment.
Use the corresponding free SmartBoard file to digitally display two of the worksheets. This is a great way to model the process for the students.
