When working on sentence structure and creative writing I use these printouts for students to work together to find synonyms for commonly used words. The weak or over-used word goes in the middle of the flower and the synonyms are placed on the pedals. Once they have completed 4-8 per pair I have them choose their favorite one and it is posted on a larger flower in the classroom. Because they are laminated I change them throughout the year. They can also be used throughout the year where the students track words they over-use or weak words that can be replaced to increase reader engagement and to ‘spice’ or ‘juice’ up their writing.
