These word wheels were designed for kindergarteners to introduce short vowel sounds, to practice CVC word families, and to blend letter sounds to read words. They have proved to be successful and engaging with kindergarteners as well as first graders in building phonological awareness.
Students I have used these with have enjoyed feeling successful in reading the words (even if just by memory) and have been anxious to take the wheel home to read to parents.
Each set of word wheels (for each of the five short vowels: a, e, i, o, u) comes with a shape to cut out by the student, a wheel with the letters, a supplemental worksheet for practice writing the words in the word family, and a set of printable word cards for each vowel sound.
I have also made available a second set or word wheels, for each of the short vowels sounds, for additional practice.
