This Word Work pack is designed to make Making Words easy! These no prep activities can be used in place of word building lessons or to supplement traditional word work lessons.
Instead of manipulating letter cards, students write words using the word parts that are provided. On some sheets, an asterisk is included. This indicates that students may add any word part.
I find these word work sheets are excellent for helping students refine handwriting skills. Students are creating and writing one word at a time and have a model of each word part. If a student has a tendency to reverse a letter, I have him/her trace the model first and also check their work against the chart at the top of the page.
It is important to complete the first couple activities at school, with support as needed. Options included:
★ Dictating words for students to write using the word parts.
★ Having students work in partners to create words.
★ Having students create words individually.
Once students are familiar with the format and routine, parents find these very helpful as skill boosters at home. (A parent letter introducing these Word Work/Making Words sheets is included.)
