Here are 10 -ap word family literacy centers that can be used in whole group and small group settings. Students will be engaged with hands-on word work activities that will assist in beginning reading skills. Just print, laminate, and watch your students have fun while learning!

**Color & Black/White versions included!**

Building Words: Using a pocket chart, have the students build words in the word family using the letter and picture cards provided.

Play-doh/Rainbow Write: Use the large bubble word cards to make words using play-doh or students can use these to rainbow write words in the word family. There are 2 versions of recording sheets.

Making Words: There are 2 options. Students will look at the picture on the word family strips and use letter tiles/magnets to build words in the word family in the spaces provided.

Matching: There are 3 options to this activity. 1) Word cards with small picture clues, 2) word cards with a large picture clue, and 3) word cards with no picture. Have the students decode the words in the word family and match the cards.

Sorting: Use the thumbs up/down and picture cards to sort words in the word family and have students record their findings. There are 2 versions of recording sheets.

Blending Cards: There are 2 versions of cards that will help students with blending words in the word family.

Find & Cover: There are 2 versions of this activity and 5 options in each. Students will look at the picture, say the word, and determine if the word is in the word family. If so they can cover it with an object.

Hide & Find: There are 2 options to this game. Choose the word cards with or without picture clues and place them in a pocket chart. Have the students take turns hiding the hidden picture behind a word. Students take turns saying the words and checking. If they find the hidden picture then that student is now the one who hides it for their friends.

Write the Room: Use the word family cards and recording sheet to get students up and moving and assess their knowledge.

Sentence Strips: There are 2 options to these. Students can practice reading simple sentences that incorporate words in the word family.
