Here are 10 -at word family literacy centers that can be used in whole group and small group settings. Students will be engaged with hands-on word work activities that will assist in beginning reading skills. Just print, laminate, and watch your students have fun while learning!

Building Words: Using a pocket chart, have the students build words in the word family using letter and picture cards provided.
Play-doh/Rainbow Write: Use the large bubble word cards to make words using play-doh or students can use these to rainbow write words in the word family. There are 2 versions of recording sheets.
Making Words: There are 2 options. Students will look at the picture on the word family strips and use letter tiles/magnets to build words in the word family in the spaces provided.
Matching: There are 3 options to this activity. 1) Word cards with small picture clue, 2) Word cards with a large picture clue, and 3) Word card with no picture. Have students decode the words in the word family and match the cards.
Sorting: Use the thumbs up/down and picture cards to sort words in the word family and have students record their findings. There are 2 versions of recording sheets.
Blending Cards: There are 2 versions of cards that will help students with blending words in the word family.
Find & Cover: There are 2 versions to this activity and 5 options in each. Students will look at the picture, say the word, and determine if the word is in the word family. If so they will cover it with an object.
Hide & Find: There are 2 options to this game. Choose the word cards with or without picture clues and place in a pocket chart. Have students take turns hiding the hidden picture behind a word. Students take turns saying the words and when the hidden picture is found the students switch.
Write the Room: Use the word family cards and recording sheet to get students up and moving and assess student’s knowledge.
Sentence Strips: Students can practice reading simple sentences that incorporate words in the given word family. There are 2 options to this activity.
