Word Work during Daily 5, or any literacy center, can often become challenging for students to stay on task with because there is no end goal. This pack will reduce student disengagement, misbehavior, and increase student motivation!
Research shows that engagement is the missing link when it comes to motivation. So how can we engage our students to learning words? We must give them choices and offer a variety of activities that suit each child's specific ability and interest. We have to make learning fun for our students!
In this pack, I have included a Spelling Menu where the teacher, or student, sets a goal to determine how many points they would like to earn during each round. Students stay on task the whole time during the word center working and trying to complete the goal. Activities that are on the high end of Bloom's Taxonomy earn students more points while activities on the lower end of Bloom's Taxonomy earn students fewer points.
There's also a Tic-Tac-Toe board for students who haven't quite mastered adding multiple addends or for teachers who may want to provide students with another choice. In the center of the tic-tac-toe board is a "Free Space" where students can choose whatever activity they would like. Not matter how the three in a row, students must complete one of the Higher Order Thinking activities to achieve three in a row.
There are 11 activities that come in three different sizes (whole page, half page, quarter page). All you have to do is provide the choices and the worksheets for the activities and your Word Work center/round is complete! The activities include:
-See and Spell
-Words in Motion
-Letter to a Friend
Your students will enjoy these activities, and I know you will see, hear, and feel improvements with your students using this pack to help during you Word Work round because I HAVE!
