This huge 125 page resource consists of everything you need to implement 5 different hands-on literacy tasks during your daily literacy centers:
~ Playdoh Center: kids use playdoh to make CVC words on their mats, then record the words on their recording sheet. There are 6 playdoh mats for each short vowel, and 1 recording sheet that can be mass-produced and used for all the mats.
~ Word Puzzles Center: kids assemble word puzzles on their puzzle mats by putting the letters in the correct order and by matching the assembled letters to the correct picture (to check for comprehension). Students then record the words from their puzzles on their recording sheet. There are 9 different puzzles for each short vowel, as well as a puzzle mat & recording sheet that can be used interchangeably with all the puzzles.
~ Word Sorts Center: Students sort CVC words by word family on their mats, then record the words they sorted on their recording sheet. For each short vowel, there are 2 sets of word sorts with corresponding word cards and recording sheets: one set has three word family categories, and the other set only has two. This will allow you to differentiate for struggling students.
~ Slide-A-Word Center: kids use word sliders featuring various word families to make words. They decide if each word is a real word or nonsense word, then record the word in the appropriate column on their recording sheet. For each short vowel, there are 4 different sets of word sliders (each featuring a different word family) and a recording sheet that can used with any word slider activity.
~ Build-A-Word Center: students put a picture of a CVC word on their mat, say the word, build it with letter cards, then record it on their recording sheet. There are 6 different pictures for each short vowel; the build-a-word mat and letter cards can be used with all of them.
All 5 centers also come with a decorative poster with the center name and an "I Can" directions poster with pictures (to promote independence for struggling students).
