Short, focused, intensive literacy intervention instruction for young students, struggling to break the code of early reading / word work. Students that are struggling with learning to read need instruction in phonological and phonemic awareness, segmenting sounds into words, and lots of practice hearing, speaking, reading, writing, and manipulating sounds and letters. Many of the popular Orton-Gillingham programs are excellent, but when used with fidelity, the lessons generally take 50-60 minutes. Unfortunately, allotting that much time within a typical school day proves extremely difficult. These lessons include the most effective aspects of a structured, multisensory early literacy program and are designed to provide focused, intensive instruction in a reasonably short amount of time. It is strongly recommended, that these early learners focus solely on decodable, controlled text, based on the concepts they are learning or have already learned. As students become more successful with decodable text, their confidence as readers will soar.
These intervention lessons are designed to be taught four days per week and take approximately 20-25 minutes per session.
