If you like Timothy Rasinski’s Word Ladders, you’ll love using Mystery Words with your students!
Mystery Words are a quick and easy guided reading center, warm-up, or word work activity to prepare and the students love them! I typically give the students a baggie of the magnetic letters that are required to form the word and then they physically manipulate the letters to form new words (if you don’t have magnetic letters, have thee students write the letters on a strip of paper and cut them apart to form letter tiles). This activity provides a visual and kinesthetic approach that helps the students discover small changes that they can make to create a completely new word.
This pack includes 20 Mystery Word challenges: snowflakes, snowman, snowstorm, valentines, friendship, secret admirer, leprechaun, four leaf clover, rainbows, raindrops, umbrellas, sunshine, summer vacation, Frankenstein, trick-or-treat, jack o'lantern, cornucopia, Santa Claus, candy canes, and stockings.
